How to Change Your PSN Online ID (and What It Costs)
You can change your PSN online ID on PS5 at Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Profile > Online ID, or on the web in Account Management. Your first change is free. After that, each change has a fee, which Sony listed as $9.99, or $4.99 for PlayStation Plus members, when the feature launched in 2019.
Cost rules
| Change | Cost |
|---|---|
| First change | Free |
| Each later change | $9.99 USD (2019 launch price) |
| Each later change, PS Plus member | $4.99 USD (2019 launch price) |
| Reverting to your old ID | Free |
Sony’s current support page only says “a charge applies for additional changes,” so confirm the exact price on the order screen before you pay. Sony says there’s generally no limit on how many times you can change it.

Things to check before you change
- Older games: Sony says some PS4 games may have issues after a name change and keeps a list of games tested with the feature. Check it if you play older titles.
- PS3 and PS Vita: These don’t support online ID changes.
- Child accounts: Can’t change their online ID.
- Problems after changing: You can go back to your original ID for free, and Sony says that fixes most issues.
- Rule breaks: If a new ID breaks the Terms of Service, Sony changes it to a temp ID, and you can pick a new one or revert.
If you want a fresh name before a big online launch, do it a few days early so any sign-in issues are sorted out before release. Our GTA 6 release time page has the launch timing, and how to preload GTA 6 covers getting the download done early.
