GTA 6 Pre-Load: Date, Time and How to Download Early on PS5 and Xbox

GTA 6 pre-loading starts on November 12, 2026, exactly one week before the game launches on November 19. If you pre-order, you can download the whole game in advance, so it is ready to play the moment your region unlocks. This works for both digital pre-orders and boxed copies.

How to pre-load GTA 6 on PS5

1. Pre-order GTA 6 (Standard or Ultimate Edition) on the PlayStation Store, or redeem the code from a boxed copy under the PlayStation Store’s Redeem Codes option.
2. Turn on automatic downloads: go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Automatic Downloads/Updates and switch on Auto-Download.
3. So the download keeps going while the console sleeps, go to Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode and turn on Stay Connected to the Internet.
4. On November 12, if the download has not started by itself, open your Game Library > Your Collection, select Grand Theft Auto VI and press Download.
5. When the download finishes, the game icon will show a countdown or a lock until your region’s unlock time.

How to pre-load GTA 6 on Xbox Series X|S

1. Pre-order GTA 6 on the Microsoft Store, or redeem the boxed copy code from the Store’s Redeem option.
2. Make sure your console is set to keep games up to date: Settings > System > Updates, and use the Sleep power mode so downloads continue in the background.
3. On November 12, open My games & apps > Full library > All owned games, find Grand Theft Auto VI and select Install.
4. Pick your internal SSD or an approved expansion card as the install location. Xbox Series X|S games cannot run from a normal USB hard drive.

Can I pre-load with a physical copy?

Yes. Rockstar confirmed that boxed copies of GTA 6 contain a download code, not a disc. The physical version goes on sale from November 12 precisely so buyers can pre-load at the same time as digital buyers. Redeem the code on your console, then follow the steps above. Make room before November 12

The PS5 version is reported at around 210 GB. A standard PS5 has about 667 GB of usable space and a Series S only around 364 GB, so many players will need to delete games first. Clear the space a day or two early so the download is not stuck waiting for you.

Will there be a day one patch?

Rockstar has not said. Big open-world games usually ship a launch patch, so leave some extra free space and keep your console online on November 19.
