Xbox Mythic Achievements Explained: How to Earn Them After the October Update

A Mythic Achievement is a new Xbox status you earn by unlocking all of a game’s original achievements. Achievements added later through DLC or updates do not count against you, and once you reach Mythic, it is yours permanently. The feature rolled out to Xbox consoles in the October 28, 2026 update, after testing with Xbox Insiders since late September.
How to earn a Mythic Achievement
- Unlock every original achievement in a game.
- Achievements from later DLC or updates are tagged “add-on” and are not required.
- Once earned, Mythic status is permanent, even if the developer adds new achievements later.
Is it retroactive?
Yes. Xbox says Mythic status has already been added to eligible games you finished in the past, including Xbox 360 games. So if you have completed games before, check your profile. Some may already show as Mythic.
Where to see your Mythic Achievements
- A new Gaming tab on your profile shows your achievements, your next Gamerscore milestone badge and your completed games.
- Mythic Achievements get a special heroic frame in your achievement history.
- Each game’s achievement list has a progress bar showing how close you are to Mythic, with a filter to show only the original achievements you still need.
- You can view friends’ Gaming tabs to see which games they have taken to Mythic.

How to get the update
Most consoles update automatically. To check manually, go to Settings > System > Updates and install any available console update.
Tip: free up space before GTA 6
The new save management tool is handy right now. GTA 6 launches on Xbox Series X|S on November 19, and it is a very large download (see our GTA 6 file size guide). Clearing old local saves and unused games is a quick way to make room before preloading opens.
