How to Turn On 2-Step Verification on Roblox
To turn on 2-step verification (2SV) on Roblox, open Settings, go to the Security tab, and switch on the method you want. You need a verified email address on your account first. Roblox offers email codes, an authenticator app, and security keys, and you can only use one method at a time.
Before you start
- Verify your email. Roblox says you must have a verified email address to enable 2SV.
- Pick a method. Roblox’s safety guidance recommends the authenticator app.
- Kids: ask a parent to help set this up, especially if you use a parent’s email.
Steps to turn on 2-step verification
- Log in to your Roblox account.
- Open Settings. In a browser, click the gear icon in the upper-right corner. In the mobile app, tap the three-dot icon, then the gear icon.
- Open the Security tab.
- Turn on the toggle for the method you want.
- Follow the on-screen steps for that method.
Which method should you pick?
| Method | How it works | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| A code is sent to your verified email when you log in with your password. | Easiest to set up. | |
| Authenticator app | An app on your phone shows the code. Roblox names Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Duo, and Twilio Authy as examples. | The method Roblox recommends. |
| Security key | A physical key or a device biometric like a fingerprint reader. | Roblox requires the authenticator app method to be on first, so you are not locked out if you lose the key. |
Roblox may also ask you to approve a login from a second device where you are already signed in. You can review the device type, region, and time before you approve or deny it. If you get a prompt you did not trigger, deny it and change your password, because someone may know it.
Save your backup codes
Backup codes let you in if you lose your phone or email access.
- Go to Settings, then the Security tab.
- Find the recovery codes section and click Generate.
- Enter your password.
- Write the codes down or store them safely. Roblox shows them only once.
Each backup code works one time. Making new codes turns off the old ones. Never share these codes; Roblox lists them among the things you should never give anyone.
Plan for account recovery
Roblox says that if you lose your main 2SV method, you need two verification methods on your account to recover it. Options include a phone number (for users 13 and older, under Account Info), a passkey (all ages, under Account Info), and backup codes (all ages, under Security). Setting up at least two now saves a lot of stress later.
Once your account is locked down, you can safely go back to collecting rewards, like the ones on our Bike Universe codes page. No real code page will ever ask for your password or 2SV code.
FAQ
Can I use email and an authenticator app at the same time?
No. Roblox says you can only use one 2SV method at a time.
Why can’t I turn on 2-step verification?
The most common reason is an unverified email. Roblox requires a verified email address on the account before 2SV can be enabled.
What if a 2SV login request expires?
Roblox says the login attempt expires if you do not respond in time. Just try logging in again.
Does logging in with a passkey skip 2SV?
Yes. Roblox’s Help Center says logging in with a passkey bypasses 2SV for these methods.
