How to Redeem a Code on PS5, the PS App, and the Web
To redeem a code on PS5, open PlayStation Store, press the triangle button, select … (More) > Redeem Code, type the code, and select Redeem. You can also redeem codes in the PlayStation App or on the PlayStation Store website, and the content goes to the same account. Below are the exact steps for each method, taken from Sony’s support page.
Redeem a code on PS5
- Go to PlayStation Store on your PS5.
- Press the triangle button to open the menu.
- Select … (More) > Redeem Code.
- Enter the code and select Redeem.
- Select Download to start the download now, or download it later from your library. If the content doesn’t need a download (like wallet funds), the button won’t appear.
You can also redeem a code while paying. At checkout, pick Redeem Codes and Gift Cards from the payment method menu.
Redeem a code in the PlayStation App
- Open the PlayStation App and select the PS Store icon.
- Select the menu icon on the right side of the screen.
- Select Redeem Code.
- Enter the code and select Continue.
This is handy if you get a code away from home. If it’s for a game, you can usually start the download on your console later from your game library. If you’re getting ready for a big release, see our guide on how to preload GTA 6.
Redeem a code on the web
- Go to the PlayStation Store website and sign in.
- Select your profile at the top of the screen.
- Select Redeem Code from the drop-down menu.
- Enter the code and select Continue.
Voucher code vs discount code
| Code type | Length | Where to enter it |
|---|---|---|
| Voucher code (gift cards, games, add-ons, subscriptions) | 12 characters | Redeem Code menu |
| Discount code | 10 characters | In your cart, under Enter Discount Code |
Sony says discount codes can’t be used on subscriptions or pre-orders, can’t be combined with other discount codes, and can’t be used across more than one purchase.
Why a code won’t work
- Wrong region. The code must match your account’s country or region. Physical cards show a printed flag for the region.
- Already used. Each code works only once. You can check redeemed vouchers in your transaction history in Account Management.
- Wrong account. Funds and content can’t be moved between accounts, so check which account you’re signed in to before you redeem.
- Payment method needed. Some subscription vouchers need a valid payment method on the account.
- Child account. Wallet top-up codes must be redeemed on the family manager’s account. The manager can then set a monthly spending limit for the child.
If the code worked but the content doesn’t show up, restart the console and check again. If it’s still missing, sign out and sign back in with the account that redeemed it.
Check your wallet balance after redeeming
If you redeemed a gift card, open PlayStation Store on PS5, press the triangle button, and select … (More). Your balance shows next to your profile icon. Sony notes that funds added to your wallet can’t be refunded, so double-check the account before you redeem. No. Sony says funds and content can’t be transferred between accounts, so redeem on the right account.
My code says it’s already been used. What now?
Check your transaction history in Account Management to see if it was redeemed on your account. If it wasn’t, contact PlayStation Support.
