How to Cancel PS Plus or Turn Off Auto-Renew
To stop PlayStation Plus from renewing, select Cancel Subscription in your subscription settings on PS5, PS4, or the Account Management website. Canceling doesn’t cut you off right away. You keep your PS Plus benefits until the end of the period you already paid for, and then it stops.
Cancel PS Plus on PS5
- Go to Settings > Users and Accounts.
- Select Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Subscriptions.
- Select PlayStation Plus.
- Select Cancel Subscription.
Cancel PS Plus on the web
- Sign in to PlayStation Account Management in a browser.
- Select Subscription in the menu on the left.
- Select Cancel Subscription next to PlayStation Plus.
This is the quickest way if you’re not near your console. Sony’s support page doesn’t list separate steps for the PlayStation App, so use the website if you’re on your phone.
Cancel PS Plus on PS4
- Go to PlayStation Plus > Manage Membership > Subscription.
- Select Cancel Subscription.
What you keep and what you lose
| After your paid period ends | Status |
|---|---|
| Online multiplayer | Lost |
| Monthly games you claimed through PS Plus | No longer playable |
| Online (cloud) storage for saves | Lost |
| Packs and avatars you redeemed | Kept |
| Games you bought at a PS Plus discount | Kept |
Before your plan ends, it’s a good idea to make sure the saves you care about are stored on your console, since cloud storage is a PS Plus benefit. Also think about timing. Online multiplayer is a PS Plus benefit, and Rockstar hasn’t fully detailed GTA 6’s online plans yet, so check the requirements before you cancel close to launch. See our GTA 6 editions guide for what’s confirmed so far.
Quick checklist before you cancel
- Protect your PS5 saves. Sony says PS5 saved data can only be backed up to cloud storage, which needs PS Plus. Keep the console copy, and don’t delete local saves after you cancel.
- Copy PS4 saves to USB if you want a backup. On PS5, go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data (PS4) > Upload or Delete from Console Storage > Copy to USB Drive.
- Finish any monthly games you’re in the middle of. They stop working once your plan ends.
- Cancel early rather than late. You don’t lose paid time by canceling now, since benefits run to the end of the period.
Changed your mind?
Select Reactivate Subscription in the same menu before your next payment date, and your plan stays active.
If you only want to pay less, you can change plans instead of canceling. On PS5, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Subscriptions, select your PS Plus plan, and choose Change Plan. Sony says a downgrade takes effect on your next payment date. Your payment dates are listed in Account Management. If you’re timing this around a launch, see the GTA 6 release time.
Sony’s cancellation page doesn’t cover refunds. Refund eligibility is handled by a separate PlayStation Store cancellation policy, so check that page or contact PlayStation Support if you were charged and want your money back.
