How to Turn On Spoiler Warnings on PS5

PS5 has a built-in spoiler filter. Go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Spoiler Warnings, turn on Warn About Game Spoilers, and pick how strict it should be. It’s off by default, so you need to turn it on yourself.

A quick note: Sony’s public support pages don’t list this setting, so these steps come from reporting by Android Central and GAMINGbible. Menu names may vary by system software.

Turn on spoiler warnings

  1. From the PS5 home screen, open Settings (the gear icon at the top right).
  2. Select Saved Data and Game/App Settings.
  3. Select Spoiler Warnings on the left.
  4. Turn on Warn About Game Spoilers.
  5. Choose one of the two filter levels below.

Pick the right filter level

Option What it hides Good for
Only Spoilers Identified by Game Developers Screenshots and clips that the developer has marked as spoilers Light protection
Everything You Haven’t Seen Yet All screenshots and clips from parts of games you haven’t reached Big story games like GTA 6

For a story-heavy game, the stricter “Everything You Haven’t Seen Yet” option is the safer pick. The first option only works if the developer flagged its spoilers.

What it covers (and what it doesn’t)

Based on the reporting above, the filter hides screenshots and gameplay clips on your console, including ones a friend sends you. It does not touch YouTube, social media, group chats, or websites. On PS5, your biggest spoiler risks are outside the console.

Keep in mind that the setting works per game and depends on your own progress. Once you reach a part of the story, screenshots from that part can show up normally. The “Everything You Haven’t Seen Yet” option can also hide plain, harmless screenshots from a game you haven’t started, so you may see more hidden images than you expect. That’s normal and means the filter is doing its job.

Extra steps to avoid GTA 6 spoilers

  1. Mute keywords on social apps. Most apps let you mute words like “GTA 6” or character names for a set time.
  2. Turn off autoplay on YouTube and short-video apps around launch week.
  3. Be careful with Game Help. This PlayStation Plus feature shows hints and videos. Sony says spoiler content there is handled as “hidden activities,” and you have to follow on-screen prompts to reveal it.
  4. Play early. The fewer days you wait, the fewer spoilers you’ll run into. Preloading helps. See how to preload GTA 6 and the GTA 6 release time.

Turn spoiler warnings off

Go back to the same Spoiler Warnings menu and switch Warn About Game Spoilers off. Nothing else changes.

FAQ

Are PS5 spoiler warnings on by default?

No. The reporting we checked says the setting is off by default, so turn it on manually.

Will spoiler warnings block GTA 6 spoilers on YouTube or X?

No. The PS5 filter only covers screenshots and clips on the console. Use keyword muting in your social apps for the rest.

Which spoiler setting should I use?

Everything You Haven’t Seen Yet gives the most protection. The developer-only option depends on the developer marking spoilers.

Why can’t I find the menu?

Menu names may vary by system software. Look under Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings for anything named Spoiler Warnings.
