GTA 6 Edge Magazine Feature: Every New Detail Rockstar Revealed
Update: published October 29, 2026, the day Edge put its GTA 6 feature online.
Edge magazine’s 16-page Grand Theft Auto 6 cover story went live on October 29, 2026, and it is the biggest look at how the game actually plays since the trailers. Rockstar North’s leads confirmed a Criminal Profile morality scale, a heat system that tracks your clothes and partner, working buses and trains, fuel gauges, and police K-9 units. Here is everything new, in one place.
Who Edge talked to
Writer Simon Parkin visited Rockstar North in Edinburgh and spoke with co-studio heads and heads of development Rob Nelson, Aaron Garbut and Phil Hooker. The feature is in Edge issue 430, and the full article is free to read online on GamesRadar+.
Map and world
- Size: Rockstar says Leonida’s total landmass is nearly as large as the playable maps of GTA 4, GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined.
- Interiors: there are “an order of magnitude” more enterable interiors than in past Rockstar games.
- Transit: working bus and train networks are in the game.
- Roads: roads and highways are narrower than in GTA 5, for a more realistic feel.
- Time and weather: the day-night cycle is longer, with longer sunsets and nights. Clouds move on their own based on wind, humidity and season, and storms can change roads and even buffet aircraft.
Jason, Lucia and the Criminal Profile
- You can switch between Jason and Lucia when the story allows, similar to GTA 5. The AI controls the other one.
- Their relationship is shown on a four-point closeness scale.
- A Criminal Profile tracks how you play on a scale from “Professional” to “Irredeemable”, shown with angel and devil icons, and it affects how their story develops.
We break this system down in our GTA 6 Criminal Profile and heat guide.
Police and the heat system
- Police track your physical description, partner, clothing, CCTV footage and weapon.
- Splitting up, changing clothes or dropping your weapon makes you harder to recognize.
- Cops radio each other, lay stinger strips and use helicopter searchlights. A K-9 unit can chase you down.
- There is some leeway before bad behavior triggers a wanted level.
Cars, apps and money
- Scooter Bros is an in-game app that delivers your vehicle within seconds. Weapons are stored in the trunk.
- Every vehicle has a fuel gauge and an engine health readout.
- Some stolen cars have trackers, and some owners will report the theft.
- The WAINK app lists cars that fences want. You get paid based on the car’s condition.
- You earn money from jobs like gas station robberies, jewelry store heists and car thefts.
More on this in how stealing and selling cars works in GTA 6.
Pedestrians feel more alive
- Each pedestrian has traits like temperament and aggression, and reacts based on what they saw and how you treated them.
- How you carry a gun matters: holding one alarms people more than having it slung over your shoulder.
- People take shelter in bad weather, and robbery victims or shoppers may fight back.
- Rockstar says it created around 600,000 animations, and a Los Angeles team handles NPC writing and direction.
What this does not change
The release date is still November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with preloading from November 12. Edge did not mention a PC version, and nothing here suggests one at launch (see is GTA 6 on PC?).
